hawaii - check off my list

When i was a kid, I really wanted to go to Hawaii (and Australia). Last weekend, I had the opportunity to fulfill that desire. Yay!. With one knapsack each, we boarded continental and flew to houston, then honolulu, then maui. Continental, unfortunately, has the worst entertainment flight system. Imagine only have a few channels with movies. These movies are repeated every 2.5 hours. What this means is that if you switch channels, you have no choice but to start watching the other movie right in the middle of it. The upside is that you don't get the Air Canada commercials. Also, the seats are smaller than Air Canada.

We arrive in Hawaii and rent a really nice car with a sun roof but the price was pretty cheap. we check into Hale Kamaole in South Kihei (no AC but it's pretty big, like a 1 bedroom apartment equiped with a fully stocked kitchen). We see a sign for "Office" but we accidentally enter someone's apartment. Oops. Later we drive south of the island. We pass golf clubs, well manicured lawns, huge trees and we see the sign for Open House. Oh yes, we stopped by an Open House. It was one of those houses with a walk out to an outdoor kitchen, outdoor pool, infinity pool. Did I mention the house is like $9.5 million?

Onwards, we hit the lava rock area i guess? We take a short hike and test the water out. The sun starts to go down. I'm in Maui! We grabbed dinner at Longhi's for seafood and then we go to Foodland for groceries. Little did we know, Dennis' Seattle friends were in the same plaza having Japanese food for dinner followed by a karaoke competition. However, we were super tired. So we returned to the apartment and slept.
